Cambodia House Project
OPL team member, Andrew "Slim" Rutherford, has been part of an international effort to build houses for the disadvantaged and homeless of Cambodia.

Organised by the not-for-profit Tabitha Australia Foundation, Andrew returned in July 2007 from the two week trip to the ... province which saw more than 12 homes built, housing more than 100 people. He was part of a team of 20 volunteers who donated both time and money to help put a roof over the heads of people, many of them children, living in extremely poor circumstances.

On average, it takes about two and a half years for a family to save enough to buy posts, wood for the frame and tin for the roof of their own home. They will then construct that and live in it without any walls for a further two and a half to three years. (An average house measures 4m x 5m.)

As a company, OPL has also donated funds to help with this valuable community development program.

Currently there are about six teams of volunteers per month coming from Cambodia, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Australia, United States of America, United Kingdom and Canada to house build.

Up to end-September 2006, 700 houses have been constructed by a total of 2,500 volunteers. Volunteers pay their own costs and raise US$800 for materials per house.
